When I was in the Church, Mormon was not considered degrading. Neither was LDS. I wonder why the Lord got sensitive about it all of a sudden?
The abbreviation "Church of Jesus Christ" is going to get mixed up with the Church of Christ. I wonder if the Lord will get sensitive about that too...once He figures that out?

I believe the reason they want to distance themselfs from the word mormon & lds is because of all of the egg on their face from molesting childern, the interviews with the bishops for the youth etc. Now the world views them in a negative light and they believe by changing the name they can get away from it. Too bad it won't work for the cult!
@CMan Gee, I thought maybe the sensitivity had something to do with embarrassment from the play "The Book of Mormon."
But, I don't really see how that is going to work, either. All it really means that when you call someone a Mormon they are going to get defensive and spend a long time correcting you on their proper name which will probably just make people wonder what they are being so defensive about.
