Teach and Instruct are about the same; I was a science instructor - and a teacher.
What I see happening still is a lot of "indoctrination" or bullying (AKA brainwashing)

Do not discredit yourself, you are a teacher of the scientific method where to question is required. If you merely imparted information contained within doctrine, which pure sciences like chemistry have, you exposed your students to the doctrine of science, instructing them in it. That is part of teaching.
I'd bet money that the "no flood, no evolution'' crappola is taught in fundamentalist schools.
