Last night I saw a commercial for the Freedom from Religion Foundation on television. My wife turned to me and said, "that's your group". I said, "yes, it is". But it occurred to me, was this a commercial targeted at me? We have DirecTV. I used to work for DirecTV as a system engineer and I know that there are commercial breaks that can have commercials inserted in the stream that are targeted for specific markets and even for specific individuals. Because I am on this site did ATT collect that information and send me that specifically targeted commercial? Or am I just being paranoid about how companies and governments spy on us and target us with information?

Hard to know the intent behind it, if we didn't get to see it. I LOVE the "I'm Ronald Reagan, unafraid atheist....."

We're personally targeted all the time from Facebook, Google, Amazon, etc. It used to puzzle me when I saw an ad on Facebook for something I looked at on Amazon. Now I've come to expect it though I like to think it doesn't influence my online purchase decisions.

Nope. Not being paranoid. You have every reason to suspect that.
