Despite the frost and snow the spring bulbs just keep pushing through. They do not grow like most plants by dividing and increasing the number of their cells, but by inflating their existing cells hydraulically so that they become much larger, it is a clever way to get growth in the really cold weather, when cell division and reproduction would be hampered.
