I'm a supporter of LGBTQ rights. Even though I'm straight, I was gay baited in grammar school and high school. Perhaps it was not being good in sports and not trying or being too shy to date and not lying about being a virgin. So, I have more of an understanding of what's it's like to be persecuted for that although fortunately it was only verbal. The gay baiting was only done by males. So, I've always liked females as I felt safe around them. I've gone to demonstrations and gay pride marches when younger and I've been to a gay bar or two. I break off friendships with anti-gay people as I have been a victim of the collateral damage of anti-gay bigotry. We'll never be free until all are free.

There is a body of academic research on masculinities that includes the different ways people express themselves as masculine. A professor in the field said people assume he’s gay because he has the vocal inflections and physical mannerisms commonly associated with effeminate gay men. But he is straight and married to a woman. His message is that there are many ways to be a man and many ways to experience masculinity.
