21 Sept. 2019 - Diet Diary - Just checking in, came in under allowance today but not by much. Worn out, had to hit some of the garage sales today. They are everywhere! Didn't buy much, think I spent less than $6 overall. Didn't find a fan like I was looking for though. Basic one, no remote, 3 speed is pretty cheap so if nothing turns up will pick up one in a store or online.

Will pick more pears tomorrow with the help of a REALLY LONG extension pole that someone loaned to me. I clamped a picker cage to the end. Only problem is when the pole is 24' long, it is a little hard to control where that basket is going up there. Slower picking than when I can use my 12' picker but this may keep me from having to climb up in the tree as I have in past years.

Still enjoying eating pretty much as many pears as I want. Too bad the season for fresh from the tree is so short. Going to test out fridge storage for green ones this year. Read that if you put them in the fridge right after picking, before they are "ripe", they can be stored there for up to 4 months. Take them out and let them sit for 2-3 days to ripen and it's fresh pears. Figure if I take 1-2 out every couple days, it will take me a while to use them up and I can enjoy them in their best form.

Fresh pears! Yum!!! Pear pie? Pear soup? Pear sauce? Go for it! Canning/jar-ing?

Mostly drying this year. Have canned left over from prior year(s). Have pears in light syrup, pear butter, pear honey. Will freeze some as I keep a few bags of them, already pureed and measured for my pear bread recipe. I also started using some frozen pears in my smoothies (which I haven't had too many of recently) and they work quite well as they make the smoothie even more icy, more "shake" like. Never tried pear soup and never made pear pie but I generally don't make pies anyway. I do however LOVE fresh pears. My tree is a Bartlett pear tree which makes wonderful fruit for eating fresh.

@DotLewis They're on my shopping lit. You just made me hungry!
