I lived for about 20 years on ten acres in the woods. There was a great horned owl that hung out at the south end of the property, February is their mating season and this one would circle around the area hooting up a storm at 2-3 in the morning. It happened 2 years in a row.
There was a goshawk who nested back there also. For most of the time there were no crows but then suddenly one day crows showed up, noisy fuckers.
Quail and grouse were regulars. One day the goshawk scared a grouse so bad it suicided into the side of the house, it was a fresh kill and a friend was visiting so we skinned and gutted it, made a great stew!
Miss the property but not the ownership responsibility.
Interesting, every once in a while I get an owl hooting away outside my bedroom. It's always at night and I really like hearing it even though it wakes me.
A few months ago, I came upon a flock of angry crows, mounting a swarming attack on another bird , who was apparently an interloper on crow territory.
Well, I walked over to the tree in question, and looked up quizzically, like "What's the conundrum all about?".
The crows, apparently realizing they were being real assholes, suddenly quieted down and flew off by twos and threes. And I found out the source of their consternation, as I stared up at a somewhat ruffled looking hoot owl. ( I found out later, that crows don't like owls, because they are known to steal and eat crow's eggs).
Anywhoo, he looked exactly like that drawing!
