This country needs you to vote

I may be misunderstanding. In Washington state, is it mandated that all ballots must be mailed in? If so, You could probably start an advocacy group somewhere that would setup near mail boxes in different areas and affix a "free" stamp to any mail addressed to the ballot location. Such a thing, where they are required to bring the envelope sealed, so that there is no bias or influence, advertised in groups on facebook that are sympathetic to the cause could be useful and powerful. I think many people would be willing to donate a book of stamps to such a cause. Even if it's only a few hundred votes this year, it could be the start of something great.

@DJVJ311 I believe King County (where Seattle is located) is currently considering postage-paid envelopes to increase turnout. We have some designated drop-off sites but they aren't always convenient for shut-ins. The system involves a ballot in an envelope in an envelope so that there is ballot secrecy. I think/hope that more would vote if they didn't have to have a stamp. I like your idea though. I would be more than happy to offer stamps. I think, on a national level, we need to make voting more of a priority and get greater public involvement. Not sure how that can be accomplished when we are all getting so jaded by the corruption.

@DJVJ311, In Washington State ballots are mailed to registered voters. It is NOT mandatory to mail it back or drop it in an official ballot box.

Unfortunately, each time someone moves, they must update their address with the Secretary of State's office. Figuring out the right website is difficult.

My daughter, 28, has moved 12 times in the past 10 years. Each time, I send her the change of address link and bug her to update her address. Then I nag her to vote. Sigh.

@MikeFlora, Since age 18, I have voted in EVERY election, including Presidential elections, midterms, school levies, special elections, etc.

As a lifelong Democrat, I never miss an opportunity to vote.

Voting for donuts! There's an idea. But I think we need serious voters who care about issues and serious candidates.

Utah, mail in voting is paid for by taxes. You get the ballot and mail it in postage paid.

@dare2dream Mainstream media has been very good about controlling how much information the public receives about candidates. We keep getting stuck with choices from two corrupt parties. People are just so disgusted with most candidates that they refuse to vote for "the better of two evils". I have a friend write in Mickey Mouse for president.

@Gatekeeper63 : I agree. We keep getting stuck with the corporate-backed candidates of the two major parties. That's why I registered with a third party. An uncorrupted third party candidate is better than Mickey Mouse or the corporate backed candidate.

I think the problem is lack of interest in politics, policies and issues. On Sundays people will just go to the movies, picnics or whatever.
