If I take water at 20 degrees C and put it in my freezer it will take a certain amount of time to freeze. If I then take water at 30 degrees C and put it in my freezer, then at some point it will be water at 20 degrees C. What's the difference then between 20 degree water in a freezer and 20 degree water in a freezer that was recently 30 degree water in a freezer. It would seem a simple enough experiment to replicate though. I would have to get my kids to eat a drawer full of chicken nuggets before we find out. Will report back when we do though. Does anybody have any tips on how we can be more likely to replicate the curious phenomenon?

the jury is not all out on this phenomenon called the Mpemba effect but it has a lot do on which conditions are used.

near boiling water placed in the freezer will freeze faster than room temperature water: the reason is mostly about evaporation cools the remaining faster when the water is hot. Similar to hot water making instant snow when thrown in very cold temps vs cold water does not. The effect does not really work if the water is enclosed in a container.
