The Conversation
We dreamed together one summers eve
on the hood of his car
Still hot baked from the heat of the day
We were sprawled side by side, sunburned skin barely touching
Squinting to get a glimpse of the milky way
I pointed up to the night sky
and asked
"What do you think is up there?"
And he said...
"Nothing"
"Everything"
He turned his face to me in the dim, half light and whispered,
"You "
"And me too"
"The part that makes us real"
He paused, and gently squeezed my hand
and he said...
"I think what we once were lives up there"
"And what we could become"
"Do you want to find out?" he asked
"If we're brave enough, we could catch a ride on those stars I see"
"Will you go with me?"
I breathed out, " Yes, please"
And with those few quiet words, softly spoken
I watched the stars began to fall through the landscape of his eyes,
And on the hood of his car
Still hot baked from the heat of the day,
he made me believe in forever
And he showed me the way...
