Cyril Jackson - Afro Drums

I've always loved this album. Although the jacket bills the artist as Cyril Jackson, the percussionist, it sounds like a various artists compilation of Caribbean music. It's obviously a collection of songs by widely different bands or combos, from Latin mambo to Brazilian samba (the marvelous "Tempena de Mim" ) to Afro-Caribbean folk sung in English ("Road March" ). Artist credits for the individual songs are mostly lacking. Although, it does credit Jose Ricci, pianist, on my favorite of the entire collection, "Mambo Ricci," and on the brilliant "Meringue."

Thank for posting these videos....although not a big drum aficionado I can appreciate the skill in performing on them. The African influence on modern drumming in jazz, rock and other popular Western genres of music cannot be underestimated.

Cyril Jackson's percussion is excellent but what I really love is Jose Ricci's piano on just the two tracks.
