Cyril Jackson - Afro Drums
I've always loved this album. Although the jacket bills the artist as Cyril Jackson, the percussionist, it sounds like a various artists compilation of Caribbean music. It's obviously a collection of songs by widely different bands or combos, from Latin mambo to Brazilian samba (the marvelous "Tempena de Mim" ) to Afro-Caribbean folk sung in English ("Road March" ). Artist credits for the individual songs are mostly lacking. Although, it does credit Jose Ricci, pianist, on my favorite of the entire collection, "Mambo Ricci," and on the brilliant "Meringue."
