I've been saying it for a long time: Australia is essentially a secular country now. Even still, I wouldn't under estimate the insidious influence of religion behind the scenes, in particular in the Liberal Party and its supporting structures.
I am delighted to read that Australians are consigning Christian politics to the dustbin of history.
I wish it were true but until the lot of them are bankrupted & widely acknowledged to be proven fraudsters there will remain a large majority of silent namby pambies who will never truly disavow their religion.
@FrayedBear I would be content if the idiocy rate fell to less than 10%.
@anglophone Still to great. I look at people on here who purportedly are no longer believers but instead of getting on with life are spending ridiculous amounts of time arguing & justifying their position.
It always fascinates me how most only see the role of religious influence being societal in terms of marriage laws, sexual practice and freedom of choice of worship.
The reality is that they are all money grubbing corporations who have ceased to pay taxes, who exploit the poor for profit under the guise of doing what the government doesn't, who have advantageous standing in obtaining government grants & tenders.
From experience they seem to believe that they are above the law, only answerable to their gods, & so flaunt the law with considerable impunity.
They'll be apoplectic when "No Religion" tops the pops in next Tuesday's census.
We can but hope so, can we not.
