The UN's legal arm aka ICJ should protect Assange and not allow the British authorities to extradite Julian Assange to the USA which is basically a rogue state.

Can they act in the time that it takes to fly from the UK to the USA?

And will any decision made be obeyed?

@FrayedBear At this point the UK is still part of the European Union. Member countries do not allow extradition to countries that still have the death penalty on their books.

@PontifexMarximus That is is something that I did not know. Thanks.

@FrayedBear It is actually standard in jurisdictions that do not allow capital punishment. Australian police tipped off Indonesian authorities regarding a drug smuggling operation. Consequently Indonesian authorities arrested several Australian citizens who were trialed and subsequently executed. This was an illegal move by the Australian cops. To my knowledge nobody was punished.

@PontifexMarximus It seems that Australia is very unprincipled in its behaviour. I learnt the hard way in the early '90s when I was in front of 3 Federal Judges trying to cover their arses.

@FrayedBear Indeed!
