A FIRST!!! We had a peregrine falcon come to the bird feeders at the back of my house which is surrounded by dense woods. I tried for a photo, but he flew out of photo reach when I grabbed my phone. I have no doubt he would have munched on any of the types of birds that we've drawn with feeding. Sure was handsome, with blue dorsal feathers and bright yellow feet...

They both had their mouths hanging open. Some kind of raptor had dived - grabbed a sparrow right off the feeder - and took off - just a "poof" of sparrow feathers were left.
The feeder was a window height so it was pretty impressive apparently.
We didn't know that raptors would do that until they saw it happen. lol
I actually saw this happen this month. Was at the front window when a red tailed hawk barreled off the top of the house after something in the neighbor's yard.
It is really impressive.

I've had the Peregrines show up a few times over the past few years and they are a sight to behold in a dive. The other birds make themselves scarce, even more so than when the bald eagle is around, the swans really don't like it when the bald eagle is in residence on the river in front of my house.

ooooh, no! good you were there as a bird-lunch-munching deterrent. i find the reality of predatory animals disturbing for my airy-fairy, idealistic, non-violent mind whenever i get close & personal to a situation like this.

I am definitely protective of birds that I've invited! However, I've never seen a perigrine in the wild before. I was thrilled to see it!
