These photos were taken at the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge in Decatur, Alabama. Each year thousands of Sandhill Cranes, Snowy Egrets, and Great Egrets arrive here for the first few months of winter. There are even families of Whooping Cranes.
The bluish photo with the fuzzy things abstractly shows a flight of Egrets just before sunrise. It's, more or less, a study in motion.
The other two photos are just some quick captures of Sandhill Cranes in flight. Hope you like these. Just cry "Uncle!" when you've had enough.

Sandhills are here in the soy/corn fields. Watching them in grand flocks soaring on the thermals is always a seasonal treat. Hundreds in circular motion gradually heading towards their appropriate habitat thousands of feet above. I once saw some Whoopers with them as we are close to Baraboo, the site of Whooping crane recovery & breeding. Visit if you get the opportunity. Different cranes in breeding programs. Never will I tire of nature's cycles. 6 foot wingspan dwarfs the herons & egrets that mingle. I welcome them on the fringes of my pond & spillway, a Des Plaines river tributary. Here they find a plentiful supply of security, food & rest stop amenities.

@Agon_Nostic I had a blue heron rookery with 250+ nests in the way back. Over a century old I am told then blew down in a 1998 winter storm. I miss the primordial screeching & clacking of those long bills as they ruckus their way to sleep. Conserve habitat. Not politics.
