I prefer the silence of self propelled travel. I was thinking about how I want to spend my vacation this year. I noticed the Cincinnati to Cleveland bike trail is getting close to being completed and I was thinking that would make a nice week long bike trip. Or maybe hike the Great Allegheny Passage for a week. Or a canoe trip on the Neuse river sounds great. I noticed the thing they all have in common in is nature, forward motion and silence. Each travel conveyance has it's own charms. The river has the wildlife on the banks and the invitation of what's beyond that next bend. I don't like paddling across the open bay, a lot of work, no reward. The hiking allows me to enjoy every view unfolding slowly in front of me. The bike riding I enjoy wander through the little towns and appreciate what each has to offer. The only common thread I see in that all enjoy movement and appreciate the silence, all allow me to slow down and hear the earth speak.
