I agree that these statements tend to be true, but sometimes it's just the opposite. Generalizations like these can lead to prejudices. I've been very disappointed to find mainstream scientific communities and individuals claiming to have science on their side, can be very narrow minded and unaccepting of differing opinions. Same with some "FreeThinkers". I think it's often human nature.

I'm an atheist because I'm skeptical of religion.
I'm a libertarian because I'm skeptical of government.
After giving up on a big daddy up in the sky I realized that big brother in Washington wasn't looking out for me either.

There is no necessity for anyone, libertarian or not to be an atheist. The only necessity is to be a secularist, if church and state are separate what else someone believes is immaterial.

That, sir, is well-stated and I think you're onto something reasonable. I beieve we have to exercise care not to be like the very religious fundemtalists we so ardantly oppose.
