I created this group because I notice many similarities between believers, liberals, and conservatives: dependence on, and evangelizing of, an unfounded belief system, and a propensity to, not only want to live their own lives that way, but to force everyone else to have to live that way, too.
I believe there should not only be an amendment separating Church and State, but an amendment separating School of Philosophy and State, too.
As a liberal Libertarian I am a fiscal conservative & social liberal. Conservative means to keep things as they are. Liberal is defined as "tolerant". Bill Clinton left us with a surplus as a creditor nation. He was the last to do so.That is conservative fiscally. Conservative in keeping the wilderness/environment pristine. Liberal in celebrating diversity. Keep your god & government off & out of our bodies.Yay immigrants! Cuisine, music, fashion, refreshing the DNA, science, & entrepreneurial. A liberal Libertarian seems to be an oxymoron for some but I am one. Government is necessary for some infrastructure. Water, air, roadways. The question is where are the lines? They are fluid as we advance as a species beyond war & pillage.
Do you think that government should redistribute wealth (through taxation)? Should a business owner be able to discriminate (as long as it's transparent)? Should our armies be used to help other nations -- how?
@GlyndonD Income taxation was enacted to replace the liquor tax after Prohibition was adopted as law. So no income tax. No tax on someone's ability to earn assuming the economic playing field is level. A business owner should be able to decide for themselves not who they serve but what they serve. So penis cake may be out but refusing to serve gay folks a regular cake is not. Armies to protect other democracies of reputably legitimate elections or to prevent genocide. TBD. Return to sin tax system with cannabis, prostitution, absinthe, alcohol, gambling heavily taxed for adults. "No system is perfect & as we progress as a species perhaps we will work these things out", she said hopefully. Not in my lifetime.
Well, seems to me that your label is pretty accurate -- somewhere between liberal and libertarian -- maybe closer to libertarian than liberal. The libertarian tent is bigger than the media portrays it to be (a bunch of extreme anarchists). Whatever -- it's going to take lots of small steps to get from here to there.
Thanks for this group. It's been a little while since the election, but I still find myself looking at those that complain to me, "Trump this" or " Hillary that", and saying "I voted for Johnson"
For many reasons, people will vote for only a Democrat or a Republican. One of these days, that's gonna break. Who knows what will happen after that. I think the two-party duopoly is very nervous about that. That's why they and the media jumped in quickly to quash Johnson. After Trump proves to disappoint the anti-establishment movement, libertarian Republicans might bolt to Libertarian, which might unleash libertarian Democrats to bolt, too.
Posted by SpikeTalonI kneel before no one. No gods, no masters, no control freaks. Screw the tyrants from both political extremes, and their agendas.
Posted by SpikeTalonNeither one of the extremes, and yet the best of both worlds...
Posted by SpikeTalonSubstitute the word liberals for progressives, and that would describe me as well. As for the conservative part, the socially/theocratic (aka, bible thumpers, mostly) ones in particular.
Posted by SpikeTalonIndividuality is a dirty word to the authoritarians (both left and right) in the world.
