Am I the only person who's discouraged by the fact that there are only 60 members of this group while the main group posts shit about essential oils, conspiracy theories, ancient aliens, mysticism, and whatever other crap I may have missed or forgotten?

Your statement is illogical and I can't parse it.

One of those quirks of human thinking ain't it...? Atheism<>Skepticism

Isn't the point of the Interest Groups that they are specialised and contain only the people who are particularly drawn to that topic? My feeling is that a lot of the interest groups are far too big. I think specialist groups need to be quite small so you can really get to know the members and see everything that gets posted before it disappears way down the page. The topics you have no interest in may be of major interest to other people. I find it very hard to share interests with the majority of other people but I recognise that it is me that is odd, not them!

It's not actually the group size that troubles me, as much as it is some of the posts I've seen in the overall site. I was merely comparing the group size to the number of people who accept nonsense as fact as long as it's not religious nonsense.

The trick, @JimG is to learn to identify authentic woo from fake woo. Once you have done that, you will find it easier to navigate through the main site without being subjected to too much fake woo. I agree with you. No one likes fake woo. Give me genuine woo.

I wasn't aware that there even is genuine woo. I thought of woo as new age chicanery and alternative quackery. To me fake woo is redundant.

@JimG -- Oh, I never woulda thunk it. I have to change my whole way of looking at woo now. 😉

@evidentialist point taken. I mean just because I don't believe in sasquatch doesn't mean jackelopes aren't real.

Well, the theory that ancient aliens conspired to addict humans to essential oils via mystic experiences is something to be skeptical about.
At least I'm pretty skeptical.
😉
