Hello, I am not a professional writer in any sense of the word. Have started writing blog content for websites, not my own. Just do it to earn extra cash, can turn a word, or two. In saying that, have been an avid reader all my life, dabbled in poetry, no formal training. Am however prolific in writing, literally can fill in several notebooks a month, notes mostly about books to read, things to research. Have thought about writing a book, read somewhere in order to be successful, you write about what you know. While I am still alive, it would have to be fiction, lol. Maybe, I will write that book one day, maybe here I will find encouragement. Glad to be here, thank you.

My first job out of university was as a professional writer, buy no way did I consider myself on the road to being a serious writer until I wrote fiction and creative non-fiction (a style I used for my childhood memoir). If you're an avid reader and, especially, avid writer that helps. I'm not, and I find it hard work -- not necessarily when I put pen to paper, but when I go to write it "in stone" on the computer. Some people call this writers block, I just call it fear of not being good enough. But then I'm a lot older than you so I predict you have many years of productive fiction writing ahead of you. Any favorite genres? as in poetry, short stories, short novels... This last is what I'm focusing on, a series of short novels covering street life with some crime thrown in -- but mostly unlike any modern writers I've read.
