Hallo, wordsmiths & book connoisseurs!
as a devourer of literature & a former creator of german poetry I considered joining apt enough.
.. & this is my conundrum: being bi-lingual i'm not quite sure anymore which I feel more comfortable in, english or german. as far as poetry goes, I can't seem to get the flow in the english language that just happened in german. as far as speaking, I find it easier in english. maybe I start a toy new style, writing in two languages. or does that already exist?
A lot of good German works have lost something in translation.
I really wish I knew.German for that reason.
I hope you find a solution.
danke sehr
@walklightly I really would have loved to read Hermann Hesse's works in the original German.
@Sciencemama, what prevents you from learning the german lingo?
@walklightly I started a new job and I'm learning next generation DNA sequencing. Then I will be learning other immunology techniques. My brain is pretty well exhausted by day's end. It is on my to-do list though.
@Sciencemama, i understand; give your brain a break
Guten Abend. I think the mixed language idea could be intriguing, but you would have a fairly limited audience of people who could speak both languages.
the australian community i live in has a fair number of german ex-pats, plus considering that germans (80 odd million now & counting) don't hesitate to pick english as their first foreign language at school, i wouldn't worry about the number of readers - & dir eine gute nacht
@walklightly Quite a few down here going back to 1900.
@walklightly Ah, that would make you a South Australian, yes?
@FrayedBear, do they still speak german?
@Palindromeman, what would? & no, it really doesn't.
@walklightly Some. There is also a women with gorgeous legs teaching at our U3A or perhaps it was French. Lol. I didn't join and she already knew that her legs are gorgeous.
@walklightly My bad. I just know South Australia has a significant German heritage.
@walklightly That's a good point. I forgot most Germans speak English
Lol. Clockwork Orange by I think Anthony Burgess - English / Russian language C.1962
... and not to be confused with another bloke English who spoke Russian, Guy Burgess!
@Petter LOL!
@walklightly Defecating was more what he did to his own country.
