Ascent Aspirations Magazine: Friday's Poems
April 6, 2018 Issue
Ascent Aspirations Magazine is publishing ONLY poetry on a weekly basis on a page called Friday's Poems at [ascentaspirations.us9.list-manage.com]
Poetry Submissions: We prefer shorter poems over longer poems. Poems in open form or free verse. We are not fond of end rhyming poems, but will consider form poems that show craft and interesting content. Send no more than three poems at one time. Please wait to hear back from us before submitting again. Please let your poet friends know about Friday’s Poems.
Art Submission Wanted: We decide each week what art cover we will use based on the content, so the art work is kept on file and we notify the artist the week of publication.
Three poems will be published each week and archived chronologically by date on Archives 2017

Submit to ascentaspirations@shaw.ca with Friday's Poems in the subject heading.
Please provide a brief bio. even if you have submitted and been published with us before.
We get many submissions and we read them in the sequence we receive them, so please be patient as we are often a couple of months ahead in our selection process.

I play with words and they delight me, anger me and make me laugh. I like to slap some of them on a page and call them poetry.
So glad for the opportunity to see them strutting around with friends. I'll defy my techno handicap and attempt to send some.

Much of what these days is called "poetry" is actually prose. It could be interesting, well written prose, but ...
My stepdad was a fairly successful songwriter/copywriter in Hollywood. From him I learned meter, cadence, and rhyme. We worked together on several Hollywood and Las Vegas shows. Although I appreciate free prose and I do write it on occasion, I agree that writing rhyme is more of a challenge. That is doubly so for well metered and flowing rhyme.
@evidentialist You're a man after my own heart. Prose is easy. Proper poetry, where you still need to express feelings and concepts, but do so in metered lines and with rhyme.
