I've been writing stuff for years. I've never finished much of it, and more often than not I realize that it all starts to begin looking the same as other projects. I've never submitted my items, unless one could count facebook. Does anybody else struggle with remaining cosistant, or dealing with being blocked?
The difference between authors and writers is that authors finish what they start.
Which is why I’m a writer but not an author.
What I did get published was small, and typically done in the wee hours before deadline.
If it’s not a paid gig, and no deadline, then it sits unfinished.
In all my magazine publishing years I half wrote stuff, and didn't finish it. Then I would realise I had two days to the deadline and would suddenly be able to focus. I would often then work non-stop for the entire period, just taking brief cat-naps in my office (I had a bed in the room where I stored paper, chemicals and image setter film, etc)
I passed on the business 8 years ago, and nowadays it's my "projects" that get the half done treatment.
I started to write an autobiography (about the "eventful" first 45 years of my life) 15 years ago. I haven't added to it for the past 6 years or so. (http://www.mojacar.ws/Bio/Bio_index.html ) I need a shock "kick start". Even discovering I had an incurable cancer hasn't done it.
So yes, I too have your problem - you are not alone!
We are among the world's great procrastinators!!
Best way I have found to finish something and get over a block is. Find something that needs to be done that you really hate doing, tax returns are a good example. Then put yourself in front of the keyboard and do one thing or the other.
Finish it first, if a jobs worth doing, its worth doing. You can and should re-write it again and again anyway. Cut and paste is a great boon in this
@273kelvin Copy that.
