"I do not enjoy writing. I enjoy having written." --Dorothy Parker

I've mentioned this before, but when I have that problem, I write down crap, deliberately, Put down the stupidest character names, the most absurd situations, and so on. And eventually you'll set yourself right.

Do you remember the old cartoon where this villain set an explosive to go off when Bugs Bunny hit a certain note on a piano? Old Bugs kept getting that note wrong, and the villain was so frustrated hearing it that he ran to the piano to hit the right note, with a tremendous explosion as a result. There's a great insight there: your mind can't stand disorder. It will do anything to fix it, even (gasp! choke! good lord!) writing.

SF writer Fritz Leiber just typed random letters until he snapped out of it. Whatever works for you.

Just remember: writer's block translates to English as lazy writer.

I suspect that you're going about it backwards: "I need to write something, but what?" What I do is the opposite: an idea will ferment in my head until it practically jumps out of my hands onto the keyboard. I think it would physically hurt not to enter it in the computer.

Here's a freebie: do an article about writer's block and how you defeated it, even if it's just "I beat writer's block by writing about writer's block."

Love this advice!

There’s a point in ones life where you start to appreciate the artistic value of weed. I’m not there yet. But it’s just around the corner.

It's a real bugger! Commiserations.

Only your conscious mind is blocked. This is because you subconscious is working the problem.

Forcing it will not make it better. Write something else.

Clean your office. Cleaning is always good.

Order is good. My neighbour has his lawn mower going at 7am. That is his version of order. Ugh. Anyway - I'm backing Jacar here; if the process gets blocked, think about something else. Me? A find a long hot shower is outstanding to give me ideas (like me me alone, right? Not some sexy slow motion scene. Although, now that I think about it, that would not be so bad...). Ahem - find a space, wherever that is, and use it.

@Palindromeman "Palindromeman." Most excellent Alias. Have you watched "Mystery Men?"

And good comment, too.

@Jacar I love Mystery Men. Sorely under rated, I think.

@Palindromeman I never got into collecting DVDs. I own only about 8, including Mystery Men, The fth element, His Girl Friday, Waking Ned Devine,...
All are rom coms. I'm just that kinda guy.

@Jacar Have you seen Ruby Sparks? I think you will love it. It's a rom com about a writer. I adore this film:

@Palindromeman Can you get to his mower? "Just a little bit of sugar makes the mower go down."

All very good ideas. Especially the cookie. I'm off to the shops! And I did manage to put an article together.

What do you write about?

How about inviting people through your webpage and asking if they would like you to look at anything for / with them ...

Or giving people a multi choice of matters you could write on and then asking them what they would like to see!?? Just as another way of kickstarting the process & engaging people?

I wonder if the self imposed pressures to produce are dampening your creativity. A break might help.
