Question

300 members and still not very many posts. Let's get some going! I'll kick it off with a quick off-the-cuff piece from a writing prompt.

While digging in the dirt around my yard, I found an old brass hooded lamp. The glass was shattered, the wick missing, and it had many dents and dings. My house was an old plantation shack an age ago, and it must have been lost then. But my mind went instantly to the old trope of the genie in the lamp, even though it was the wrong type. Sarcastically, to myself, I uttered, "I wish this damn thing had a genie." To my amazement, the lamp began shaking violently, and waves of thick orange smoke poured out of it like water. From the smoke, a human-shaped being emerged, looking like an orange cloud with glowing eyes. A voice like distant thunder rumbled, "Your wish is my command." There seems to be a hint of sarcasm, and the wispy portion that looks like a mouth seems to turn up at the corners. There was a clap of thunder, and the smoke rushed away in every direction. It was gone. Only two thoughts crossed my mind before I passed out. That I must be suffering from the heat. The last? "Well, fuck."

I really like this phrase"A voice like distant thunder rumbled". Lots of images popped into my mind.
