I was born in Louisiana and raised in the mountains of NC. I was never particularly religious to begin with, but I am by nature academic and value science, and the antagonistic relationship between religion and science, and the resulting social manifestations in socially isolated rural parts of the Bible Belt and Deep South, made organized religion an unappealing prospect. As a subject of study, however, religion and all that comes with it is absolutely fascinating. I am open to the idea of some heretofore imperceptible cosmic controlling force, and I am open to the idea that the technological and perceptive capabilities of humanity may one day transcend their current limitations and reveal any number of things. Until such time, however, I'll put my money on science.

I write. I'm learning music and music theory, among other things. I believe very strongly in making the acquisition of new knowledge a priority. I love video games and i've spent most of my life around computers. I enjoy tabletop gaming but it's always so hard to find people.

If I tried to talk about my taste in music or books or movies or television it would take an hour to read, but here are the broad strokes:

Music: just between the years of 1999 and 2001 I bought and lost (left my CD case on the roof of my car when I was leaving school) and bought and lost something to the tune (ha ha!) of 250 CDs. I love music LIKE THAT.

Movies: I took a class in college called 'Masterpieces of Cinema' and I was one of the two people in the class who weren't just taking the class to slack off and watch movies. We purposefully sat across the auditorium from each other so we wouldn't disrupt the teacher chattering between ourselves. She still had to ask us to shut up during midterm review because we were dominating the session. She apologized after class, and we both laughed and told her we'd been expecting it far earlier in the semester. I love movies LIKE THAT.

Television: My current major fandoms are Venture Brothers, Archer, and Bob's Burgers, and i'll usually give something Chuck Lorre produces at least an honest try. I believe Young Sheldon is an excellent extension of Big Bang Theory, which is wonderful but nearing it's end. The current popular trends of schadenfreude drama, reality shows/docudramedies and celebrity narcissism programming don't really interest me. I particularly love the 'Saturday Morning Fun Pit' episode of Futurama because during the framing vignettes it masterfully presents the viewer with an incredibly accurate picture of the public opinion of children's programming from the days of Hanna Barbara all the way through the GI Joe years and how parents kept putting pressure on the government to intercede. I love TV LIKE THAT.

Books: In terms of fiction, I enjoy spec-fic most of all. I tend to prefer fantasy over sci-fi, and while I don't read really horror I like dark fantasy and I adore Lovecraft. I had the good fortune of meeting CJ Henderson before he passed, and as a fan of Lovecraft he's one of those legacy authors that captivated the hearts of the fandom. In terms of nonfiction I like books that can teach me skills or provide similar tangible benefits, but I also like reading philosophy and history. Mythology and folklore are a lifelong passion. I also do a lot of random research about any possible subject. I love reading like...you get the idea.

I find it difficult to truly engage communities and people in numbers, and I tend to keep to myself for the most part. I'm not anti-social so much as socially avoidant. I'm usually willing to engage in conversation, and on an individual basis I find people interesting and enjoyable. I don't always make a good first impression; I'm often prone to either clam up, in which case I seem aloof, or I chatter nonstop and seem like an idiot.
