I love wandering around outside in the dark. Here are some of the critters I encountered at 2:00 this morning.
Hypercompe scribonia caterpillar; Orgyia leucostigma caterpillar; Schinia rivulosa caterpillar; cabbage white butterfly roosting for the night; wolf spider--probably Hogna carolinensis; large, female walkingstick (same insect both pics); female angle winged katydid

I am sorry but when I go outside at night I am looking at the stars, and bats if I am around street lights.

@Insectra Do they have to worry about critters getting to them, do you have to worry about doing something with the guano that collects under the house? I think it would be cool to have a bat house on my house but I worry about them being harmed.

How impressive. I don’t see such fascinating things here at night. Great photos.

I live on the water in coastal NC and nite time it's a different world out on the water . It's alive the everything comes out of the bottom . You can tow a shrimp trawl for hours and not catch thing in core sound during day light As soon as the sun goes down every thing comes out .

@Insectra When I used to clam scallop and fish for a living I had a fantastic salt water aquarium .

@Insectra Brittle stars were cool , out of the water they stiff in the water they were gracefull almost like an octopus . Sea horses I had a lemon sea slug or nudibranch . More recently I caught a sea hare and a sargasom fish but no longer had a aquarium and gave them to a friend . I also had tropical salt water too much money involved and don't want to cage any thing up any more .

Oh sweet baby jesus, you're holding that spider in your bare hand! My heart stopped for a second just seeing that. Lol

@Insectra You're a braver woman than I! I'm not afraid of spiders, but I'm also not interested in holding them. I have forced myself to touch some creepy crawlies at the science center though and it didn't kill me. 🙂

Amazing, isn't it?

I love the night life in Cental Pennsylvania.
