Brown face on PM stirs up controversy. Jagmeet Singh shows real class about it. Speaks to persons of colour about their pain. [globalnews.ca]
Real class? Decades ago, it was very common for participants in the theater arts to do such things; he was a drama teacher so he knew makeup really well; Singh was just being an opportunist - shame on him for taking such a thinly veiled attack on Trudeau's integrity. (Not that Trudeau's an angel - I'm not naive.) If he was hurt as a child growing up because he wore a turban, it wasn't from a drama teacher attending an Arabian-themed evening.
This is in the same vein of the "cultural appropriation" political correctness banner that people are waving now, so much so that kids can't dress up as any other culture for Halloween, such as our indigenous (Pocahontas), pirates (Scottish), Chinese, etc. just in case someone is offended. "Snowflake" comes to mind.
We all need to take a chill pill.
I beleive the green party has the best and most practical platform this time around and I think May would make a very good PM,,Have never voted green before or looked into them much but withthe alternatives we have,,to me would be ideal if a minority they held the power to get some of there platform done
I am worried this is going to divide the liberal vote and usher in another CON government... the cons seem to have the mentality of vote conservative NO MATTER WHAT and so if the other parties are divided the cons will win again ffs. And yes what he did was fckd up and inexcusable and not a mistake since he did so more than once... I know better than to do that yet he didn't?? come onnn... he strikes me as trying to be like those edgy white bros who you can't tell them what not to do! so he went out and did blackface
I really think the Liberals have no hope to stay in power, after SNC Lavalin, and now this. The left is already divided among several parties to begin with. I worked the Alberta election in April and I felt truly crushed while counting the ballots. I'm going to be working the federal election as well, and it is not going to be pretty. I'm sure we're going to be presented with every other remotely nasty detail about Trudeau in the next while as everyone is digging really deep into his everything.
@graceylou I wouldn't mind if it meant that the NDPs or Greens would go into power instead.... but as it stands it seems it will just lead to another 4 years of con ruin for the country... ughh him and Ford will truly fck things up here :/
@demifeministgal Well, we have Jason Kenney and a combo with Scheer would be the stuff of nightmares. The provincial NDP had their chance here but they screwed us up even worse. I don’t know how I feel about voting for them federally now. I would probably vote based on the local candidates. So far, we don’t even have any candidates yet in my riding that I’m aware of.
@graceylou meh throughout most of canadian history it has been cons causing damage and libs causing damage... NDP gets a shot ONCE and that's it?! All the fckers libs and cons have caused is forgiven and forgotten?! fckng bullshit man... this damn country deserves what it gets tbh :/ -_-
@demifeministgal If the NDP ever get elected federally they would have a huge challenge to prove the people made the right choice not choosing the customary Cons or Libs. Just one wrong move and it’s game over. It was like that provincially. People gambled on the NDP after the monotonous years of Cons and a lot was expected from the NDP. Their position was precarious. They did the opposite of what the public felt they needed or wanted. People felt we made a mistake giving NDP a chance. With our economy so bad we couldn’t afford to keep going with the NDP. Back to the old ways of life I guess.
@graceylou My point is that libs and/or cons have made MANY wrong moves historically... they defunded mental healthcare here and caused increases to street homelessness and are responsible for off-shoring and neo-liberal policies and just general globalization that has caused huge job losses and have sold off public infrastructure to private corporations for peanuts compared to how much they invested into it... but ooh well let's just swing from the right extreme to the centrist extreme and not give any other parties a chance. eye roll
@demifeministgal I think that is the case in most so-called democratic nations anyhow. People are swayed by emotional responses rather than actual platforms and policies put forward. Ah well, I've given up on this election although I will still vote. Since I'm working this election, I'm already seeing it's a huge clusterF$#K.
@ToolGuy When I was studying Sociology I did a paper on voting and party platforms. Basically, no party is either left or right if they are assessed based on the policies they put forward. Our previous NDP government here was definitely not acting very "leftist". People should simply vote based on which party platform they support the most. I've already voted so it doesn't matter anymore (election officers are encouraged to vote in advanced polling). I really don't care who people vote for. They should just go vote.
@graceylou I voted already as well after my training on monday... It is my first time working an election... any tips/advice you can provide for a newbie like me?
@demifeministgal What position are you working? It will be a VERY long tiring day. If you’re DRO or PC make sure you don’t rush through processing voters. Bring plenty of food and something to drink from home. You may not have much time for breaks. I was told we will get breaks with someone taking over our seat while we are on break. I would be weary of someone else doing part of my work. Develop a system that would let you work efficiently.
@graceylou I am a registration officer. Yea I plan on bringing many snacks/food and hopefully drinks... gotta ask my CPS whenever she decides to call -_- if the location has a fridge and microwave. Thanks
@demifeministgal When I did the provincial election, which was at a school, they brought in a microwave. I can’t remember if they had a fridge brought in as well. They did have snacks and drinks for all the election officers though I hate bottled water (or anything) so brought my own water bottle from home and I can’t eat the snacks (due to my being vegan). A lot of electors seemed to not have gotten their voter cards this time so RGO might be quite busy. But would definitely help a lot if the RGOgets the registration certificates filled before sending the electors to the polling stations. I’m not sure about the RGO position but as PC I was swamped busy most of the day and was totally exhausted at the end of the day. But I loved the work and so am doing it again.
I'm so tired of this overly sensationalized story. I feel often that, as an ethnic minority, I'm told what I should be offended by because I'm an ethnic minority. For this election, I want to know more about the parties' positions on the economy, environment, etc. This thing is a huge deflection. I mean, he did something stupid years ago when people weren't really talking about that issue. The intention, in my opinion, wasn't to offend or belittle. He just made poor dress-up choices and now he owned up to it. If you (not you specifically) think that is a problem, then don't vote for him. Andrew Scheer is a much scarier guy!!!! (I mean, I'm stuck with creepy guy Jason Kenney for premier here, ugghie)
And yet no one said much when Harper wore a Native American head dress with red cheek highlights. Go figure.
