Except zebras are not on their menu. They're too big and a kick from them could be fatal.
A cheetah will puncture a prey neck to suck blood and cause the food to suffocate with their throat clamped shut and a zebra is not too big if the cheetah rides on the back and bites it from the side a 2nd or 3rd cheetah will bite open the animal belly as soon as it stops kicking ....the cats have to hurry and eat before the hyenas catch up to steal the food
@GreenAtheist Thanks for all that. How much experience have you had with cheetahs? I double checked and couldn't find any references to cheetahs going after zebras so I had to ask. Amendment: after being challenged I did find that cheetahs will hunt zebra, so I misspoke, but I'm still correct that it's not their usual. I had to look further. I always thought they went after smaller animals and I'm still basically correct.
@AlbertSchepis I saw a single film of a cheetah taking a zebra but many films cats chasing and suffocating gazelles kicking their last kicks failing to survive a cheetah neck bite
I looked it up. They do, pictures and everything, lol.
@Hathacat Pardon me for not being as precise as possible. Yes I agree they can hunt and kill zebra, but they "feed mostly on smaller antelope like springbok, steenbok, Thomson’s gazelle, and duiker." - Cheeta.org. They'd just rather not go after a zebra when those others are handy. It's not their favorite as it's more difficult and risky than their regular prey. Would you eat just about anything if you're hungry and your favorite food isn't available? Yes of course, it's just not something you usually go looking for. Does that satisfy your argument? GEEZE! What's wrong with you people?
