Many, many moons ago, we had three cats and a mouse in the house. Cat 1 followed the mouse along the baseboards. Cat 2 was on her back, playing with her toy mouse. Cat 3 was hiding, under a table, watching from a safe distance. Human 1, was going “Do something!”
Me, human 2, located a box and trapped said mouse, tossing mouse out of the house.
My first cat, cat 0, was an efficient mouse killing machine. Her preferred venue, the bath tub.
Later, cats N and N+1 would catch them, bring them into the bedroom and chase them around the room, usually after I was in bed. I would usually have to catch the furry little pests and toss them out. But, One night, they cornered one... in a corner. Hunkered down, they stared at the mouse. The mouse stared back. I stared at all three. When that brave little critter rose up on his/her hind legs and raised its fore paws in a boxer’s stance, I thought, “Oh, FFS,” and reached down and caught the varmint by the tail. It went outside. The cats were like “Where did it go? Where did it go?”
Mice can "hiss" cats can hear such micro sounds and this kitten is just now remembering how mom hooked a mouse with her claws and bit it by the neck dead

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
