Zoe did it again. I picked her up. She did not want to be picked up. So, she used her claws - I wore a thin t shirt and her claws made a nasty scratch on my right attribute. Thank god no human sees my attributes - the scratch is ugly. I bust my butt to support her. Some thanks I get.
Here is how to pick up most any cat to avoid injury from claws: grasp hind legs with one hand and front legs with your other hand tight but not too tight to harm their legs together
....only do this for the most necessary moves....Zoe may bite so leather gloves can prevent some puncture teeth wounds....a squirt gun is least aversive to get her to move away from you where you are busy....usually shouting DOWN will get her off surfaces you need cleared
Think of how you would feel if a giant being bent over and scooped you up. Would you hold on to anything close?
I always ask permission of Zippy if he doesn't mind being picked up. The slower the better. I've lived with cats for more than seventy years.
