I have talked to something like 20 people, mostly women who have quietly told me they wished they never had children. All that work and expense was just too much. The most heartbreaking stories were about the children who went bad. The parents tried their best, but still their sons and daughters became criminals, became chronically unemployed, became couch hoppers, addicted, etc. When people condemn me, in a hostile way, for being single and childless, I often think they are secretly envious of me.

I don't get why people have kids and don't want them. If they feel like they don't want to deprive their partner of the "opportunity" of having kids, then they are not right for each other. I've expressed my wishes for no children to my family, weather or not they accept it is on them.

I have had some people be honest with me as well. Many of them were the ones that said they could not imagine how anybody would not want children. Now that they have them, they changed their story to I can now I understand why people don't want kids.
