The group is named "Battling Obesity". Are we all really battling or are many just watching and enduring? Several have been actively posting their plans, current battle, or past successes, or not. But we've heard little or nothing from most of the 67 members. Battling obesity is a 24/7 serious lifetime effort and not a spectator sport. Why not look through the posts here and make some comments, add some posts and share your battle stories. There are several good methods to winning this battle, maybe others don't work so well. Share your knowledge and experiences, please! We're in the battle together. What has worked for you?

I'm not battling, battle won 20 years ago. Should I leave this group?

If the battle has truly been "won", you might have better ways to spend your time... right? But obesity, like drug addiction, just might not be a battle you "win" and walk away from. Unless huge changes in lifestyle are made and kept it's just way to easy to slip back into some old habits as we age. That's my observation, anyway. Why not be a contributor here and tell us some techniques you used 20-years ago and still use now to win your battle?

Agree with mtnhome. I'm winning most battles, but the war still rages. I realize this is going to be a life-time struggle, and know that if I take my eye off the ball the weight will start creeping on again. I can easily put half a stone (7lbs to my American cousins) in a bad week, e.g. Christmas - which fills me with dread.

Good call. I can't recall the number of times I've woken up in the morning, looked at my gut in the mirror and resolved to do something, only to hit the breakfast buffet half an hour later!
Weight loss is a state of mind.

Weight loss is an active battle, every day for most of us I suspect. It involves both wiser food choices and more exercise. I'm pretty sure the successful ones had to be aggressive about it. The maintenance battle will be more subtle, but I'm looking forward to that day because there are just a few foods I eliminated entirely that I'd like to add back to my routine.

I know what you're saying @tedoi. I'm trying to decide whether to attend a working lunch meeting today where my broker always has a high-calorie buffet spread laid-out for attendees. The people who order it are very "large", as are many of the rest. I've asked for healthier choices but been told no one would attend the meetings. No, I'm not going to take my own food, or just attend without eating. Not a matter of small portions... they'd have to be thimble-sized. OK, I decided... I'm headed-out for the local Farmer's Market... a place that always makes me happy.

I won't judge someone who isn't actively participating, because i don't know their struggle. I know i have to get my mind in the right place before i can do any good in this area. Perhaps just being here reading the posts can help them get there.

Agreed.

Good thinking! We need to be as supportive of each other as possible. Battling overweight and obesity is a life-time struggle.

Thanks! This needs to be an ACTIVE site if folks are going to win the BATTLE. I want to see everyone jump in and share their success stories or let us help them make a success story.

Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
