25 June 2019 - Diet Diary - Today went fairly well, planned more and stopped myself a couple times when I thought another "snack" was called for. Turned the cauliflower salad with kale remnants into a kale salad with cauliflower. Had to add a little more dressing but put in several large leaves of kale. I liked it better after adding the kale. Also added some purslane. Try looking up calorie content for purslane. SURPRISE! It is right there and there are only 7 calories in A CUP of it. Wonder if I can find a listing for daylily buds. They are also tasty and my daylilies are THICK this year. Can't seem to limit their expansion so maybe I can just eat them.
Kept under my limit today, ending at 1130, no daylilies. Maybe tomorrow. Got excited about breakfast tomorrow, found 2 asparagus spears today which I grabbed. Have some sweet pea sprouts in the fridge and some purslane. Putting all of it, with some ham in an omelet in the morning. My definition of omelet is scrambled eggs with something mixed in and some cheese on top. Never quite mastered that lovely folded egg encasing goodies. Should be tasty anyway.
I can't wait for the squash blossoms! I also have some nasturtiums coming up...the leaves are so peppery and lovely in sauces...glad to know others are enjoying the bounty in our own backyards...
The "omelet" turned out quite tasty. Had a tiny tomato to add, which has been ripening on the counter since I bought the plant at the greenhouse. Ended up saving half the vegis for another go tomorrow.
I usually let a few lamb's quarters grow in the yard as well and recently found a couple new "weeds" to investigate. One has a pleasing odor, thinking it might be used as seasoning.
@DotLewis Looks great! I wish I knew how to find burdock...it grew rampant on my uncle's farms along the fences...I have tried but apparently, it is not as prevalent as it once was..I can still buy it at the Asian market, but it is just a weedy bush!
I'm fascinated by your flower-eating. I didn't know day Lillie's were edible. How do you know which flowers are good? Do they need to be cooked?
mmmm with just butter, salt and sometimes pepper....
@thinktwice Right. I'll try them next spring.
Posted by OldMetalHeadI hit a new weight milestone this week. Still trying for the six-pack.
Posted by OldMetalHeadThe hardest part for me is not falling back into old bad habits after meeting goals.

Posted by JonnaBononnaI had finally gotten back on track after gaining back most of the weight I lost a couple of years ago.
Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
