The secrecy and silence surrounding the horrific sexual and other abuses of children by Catholic priests and other church members began to surface in Newfoundland in the 1980s. At the time the church denied any involvement or guilt but of course the evidence was simply overwhelming and they lost badly.
Forced to pay tens of millions in compensation, the Church did what it always does - protect itself while throwing everyone else under the bus.
Recently, the faithful in many parts of Newfoundland found that the Archbishop and council have decided to sell local churches and other assets to cover off lawsuit costs. But of course local people, who built and paid for these churches and assets, were not consulted and are now being asked to fund raise to buy what they thought they already owned.
How this church continues to claim any moral standing simply staggers me and yet . . . .

It's not going to happen. Most if not all of those who committed those atrocities are now dead, and the Roman Catholic Church denies always all responsibility for the actions of those to whom it pays money. There is also the matter of the mental defectives in governments around the world who refuse to hold the Roman Catholic Church to account.

The BS going on with our old residential schools here, is just beyond comprehension, & I have no respect for any of the lot who decided that was the way to treat people.
They're still the hypocrites I remember from my childhood! They'd have ''prayer meetings'' on Wed. nights. People would stand up and say "I'm asking for prayers for my friend, Sister Susie (for example). Her husband has begun drinking again."
Even as a child, I'd hear the moral superiority and genuine desire for GOSSIP in these ''requests." And, even as a child, I knew this was just basically WRONG.
