The governor signed the paperwork for certain staff and teachers to carry guns in school. Your thoughts on this??
You've seen my comments about guns. The question now is: What are you, you and you the citizens willing to do about it?
Let's get the constitution amendment for the right to bear arms in it's proper place.
Written in the 1700's when our fledgling country was still fighting the British.
It was then important to have a standing militia of citizens able to bear arms and fight.
NOW? It should be rescinded.
Stupid idea. More likely to hurt themselves and innocent others.
We need to install a system like the British.
Do away with the manufacture and distribution of automatic weapons.
Never heard of a hunter, hunting animals with automatic weapons.
More ammo= more innocent people getting shot
My first thought when I heard this proposed was that we see cell videos of teachers abusing kids regularly and that a teacher will shoot a child, will claim self defense and will get away with it.
Yes. I've had teachers that threw metal chairs at us. If they'd had guns people would be dead ?
This is a touchy subject. There are people on both sides of the issue who have strong feelings. There is no doubt we need to secure our schools. It would be nice if we lived in an utopian society but to achieve this is elusive and evasive. And as we all know there are bad people out there. Consider the security used to protect our elected officials. Are not our children just as important. I think they are. It is up to us to protect them. As we can see from the past no one way is infallible. Giving the ones we love no way to protect themselves is unexcusable. No one way will be the only answer but a lot can be done and needs to be done. Can this cause problems , possibly. Can it save lives , in the right situation yes it can. To do nothing is wrong. To protect our schools is more inportant than anyone's feelings. The right thing to do is protect our kids by any means necessary. There is a need to educate our childern on the effects of bullying. And counseling for all that need it. Watchful eyes and ears from all of us. Protect our schools.
Yeah. We've had a century of public schools and only in the last 20 years has this become a thing. I don't think accepting it as inevitable or a new normal is the answer.
As long as they are trained and permitted, they should be able to carry on school property and should receive an incentive for doing so.
The incentive they receive is to be shot first as the ony person in the room with the shooter who might be armed.
The training is 5 1\2 days worth
My dog Max is trained also, but he still has an accident when he gets scared.
well certainly they would need to have some training on how to handle a gun and some markmanship training. The idea is not to shoot and kill. Its to put out of comission so the individual cannot carry out any more destruction.
It's already been determined. 5.5 days of training.
@ashortbeauty not even close to enough
@Donto101 no it's not and nothing on paper as to how much time they need to be at the range to keep on top of things
What training!!! Just aim it at somebody, close your eyes and pull the trigger. What could be easier.
I'm thinking back to my school days and imagine some teachers I had with access to guns in school, I would not feel comfortable there.
It's a step in the right direction and I'm pleasantly surprised that Scott listened to his constituents.
Walk in door. Shoot teacher who may be armed. Finish off classroom. No school shooter had the real idea of surviving and now they just have to shoot the teacher first.
@DJVJ311 I was referring to the rest of the provisions in the bill signed. There are a handful of common sense restrictions in the bill signed. Those I'm a fan of, not so much arming teachers. See my post above for my feelings on that.
Ahhh... weird... even though it's above mine now, I didn't see that when I responded to the other comment. Haven't had a chance to read the bill yet, I was just going by the description in the post. Arming teachers is such a bad idea.
@DJVJ311 for multiple reasons, yes.
