An interesting article about the Satanic Temple
The word religion lends itself to such creative legal uses precisely because it has no set definition. As religion scholar Russell McCutcheon says, religion’s “utility is linked to its inability to be defined.”
The Satanic Temple is significant because it renders this sort of verbal slipperiness less tenable. If this group can no longer be dismissed as a “hoax,” people might be forced to think a bit more about what religion is.
Very good article.. I may become a Satanist now..
My like of the Flying Spaghetti Monster has made me a Pastafarian.
Thank you for this. To too many,, religion means christianity [sic] (and even then only certain sects). People fail to realize the term is a general one and includes thousands of groups. FFRF has used the group to get certain rules passed or not passed. Often people cannot fathom someone with out any religious belief and accuse atheists of being "Satanists." Want to get rid of people pushing their religion just tell them you're a Satanist and watch them run!! If a religious invocation is only allowed then that would have to include a Satanist invocation.
That was a most interesting and thought provoking article.
I thought so too
