Any fans of Neil Degrasse Tyson? Hard to find a favorite talk by him but this is near the top of the list. Long listen but worth it if you haven't listened to him before.
The opening paragraph in Neil Tyson’s Astrophysics for People in a Hurry:
In the beginning, nearly fourteen billion years ago, all the space and all the matter and all the energy of the known universe was contained in a volume less than one-trillionth the size of the period that ends this sentence.
That’s not science.
Meh....what if we discover more stuff...does that make us living today ignorant...or just old? We were wise and learned and smart for our time. Some folks of 100 and 1000 and 10,000 years ago - dare I say even 100,000 years ago - were wise and learned and smart for their time.
But.
Neil deGrasse Tyson inspired me to think about this...and write this...so I am a fan....
As a species I think we are ignorant to an extent. Depends what you're comparing us to. Monkeys - we are brainiacs, perceiving more than 3 dimensions - we are lowly dumb animals.
