Can anyone identify these? This is an old root that sprouts new shoots yearly. I'm in North Florida, and we have indigenous onion and garlic, but not sure if these are one of those or if they are a toxic Lily that looks very similar. Plz help.

If it were an allium of which garlic & onion are a type of allium, you would know by the smell. I mean aroma.

Do they flower at all? The roots look a bit like what we call a Day Lily, and the leaves even more so.

@Adorkable ok, do not eat them, many lilies are toxic including Day Lilies.

The red stems call to mind a specific kind of forsythia bush . If allowed to grow (don't prune in the spring) it produces bright yellow flowers up the branches in the spring , but the red stems show brightly in the northern states against snow .

Forsythia?? Are we looking at the same thing?

Whatever it is the red coloured stems and mouldy looking roots do not look appetising IMO.
