Police arrested and tried a person and claimed the 60 thousand he had as bitcoin , but can't get to it because he won't give them his password . Also read some bitcoins will forever be locked away, because folks have forgotten their password .

I also believe that they are attached to the computer they were originally on when bought.
There was a story recently about someone in England who bought some bitcoins years ago and accidentally threw away the laptop he bought them on. The laptop is in a rubbish tip somewhere and he has offered the council responsible for the tip a substantial sum to dig up the rubbish and search for the laptop.
