What worked for me: When the divorce whammy came down on me, I weighed at least 195. I was so upset about what happened I could not eat for days. Finally, I ate a banana. Recovery was slow. But then I noticed.....I was down to 180 pounds! I kept at it. I had a cause. I pushed my weight down to 170. Now here I am four years later. I weigh myself daily and I am typically between 166/ 169 lbs. I feel great! When I dip below 165 I feel even better. So what worked?......starvation.

Democrat Pete Visclosky. Been there for about 40 years. I have no idea what he has done or accomplished. He talks about protecting the steel industry and keeps getting re-elected. I don't think I've seen his name on any legislation. IDK if he sits on any committees. I've never seen him interviewed on TV ....okay I don't really pay attention, but there's been lots of politicians I've made note of who have not even served close to 40 years. President Trump did more for the US Steel industry in less than a year than Visclosky (and our next door neighbor Obama) did in a combined 40 PLUS years! I'm no fan of steel and the pollution, but it is about the jobs and keeping the factories opened. Many friends, neighbors and customers work there. This guy has done nothing.

Interesting opinion piece about the rise of atheism in America.
twill comments on Sep 5, 2019:
"This begs the question: have Americans become so inured to secularism, materialism and consumerism that the prospect of atheists becoming a major political force does not create the slightest bit of discomfort?" After talking with a christian friend today, I realized all that he talked about were his possessions and money. I think quite simply, many, if not most Americans claiming to be christian are clue less. To say the least. Perhaps it's not that Atheist numbers are rising. Perhaps many "christians" are giving up the facade. Also, for many Americans, the words christian and American are so entangled and intertwined, that they are both and it is one. The cultural thing.......

I was having a beer with a vet and her 2 brothers a couple of days ago. She was extremely racist and trying to throw her garbage into the conversation. I/ we ignored her well enough to skip around her shit. I was pre warned as I was FB friends with her at one time, but unfriended her. Not due to racism, but her Type A personality. 35 + Years ago, an aquaintance, Bako, a biker, vietnam vet (Army) was into Nazis and white supremacy. ( My 1st go around with this. ) VERY VERY Racist. He passed away a few years back. He would probably be pleased at the state of the world. But to be fair, he raised his family, paid his taxes, worked hard for his brothers. IDK a lot of vets. IDK if vets are less racist or more tolerant. I know that they all aren't. IDK if they want to continue the war they were in, never outgrew racism or something in their past can't be changed within them. I'd like to know more

An aquaintance of mine, Steve, at age 8 had a cousin who was also 8. (this was 40 years ago) . One day Steve's cousin was riding his bike when taken by a neighborhood adult. This adult took the boy into the woods. Tied him to a tree. He tortured the boy. Beat him. Raped him. Did sick shit that I cannot picture or define. Many times I think of that boy. I think of that boy crying. Begging. "Where's my Dad?! Mom help me! Daddy ! Help me Dad! Where are you? " Fear, Pain, Tears and Anguish exploding out of him. Of course they weren't available. Working. Taking care of business, other kids, shopping. They had no idea what was taking place. That boy died that day. Tied to a tree. 8 years old, beaten and defiled. But GOD saw it all. He did nothing. The most powerful being in existence, in the whole universe, did nothing for that boy. God watched him suffer and die for the joy of a truly sick, wretched piece of garbage. Car keys? Touchdowns? Money? ......They deserve eternity with that sick bastard. They don't know what they are in for, do they?

twill comments on Jul 14, 2019:
Looks like someone found their poster boy. I could only read so much of this horseshit. Where is PT Barnum when you need him? “This whole notion of finality and final ideas is, to me, just an attempt to turn science into a religious system, which is something I disagree with profoundly.” Don’t like the competition? "To me, science is one way of connecting with the mystery of existence. " One of many. Thinking helps too. “ I’m not talking about the science of materials, or high-temperature superconductivity, which is awesome and super important, but that’s not the kind of science I’m doing. I’m talking about science as part of a much grander and older sort of questioning about who we are in the big picture of the universe. To me, as a theoretical physicist and also someone who spends time out in the mountains, this sort of questioning offers a deeply spiritual connection with the world, through my mind and through my body. Einstein would have said the same thing, I think, with his cosmic religious feeling.” I me mine, I me mine, I me mine “I believe we should take a much humbler approach to knowledge, in the sense that if you look carefully at the way science works, you’ll see that yes, it is wonderful — magnificent! — but it has limits. And we have to understand and respect those limits. And by doing that, by understanding how science advances, science really becomes a deeply spiritual conversation with the mysterious, about all the things we don’t know.” A humbler approach to knowledge and ....put more faith into faith? It's what he doesn't say that gets the base all riled up “What I mean by that is, what is atheism? It’s a statement, a categorical statement that expresses belief in nonbelief. “ Not as good as a belief in belief evidently “There is a difference between “science” and what we can call “scientism,” which is the notion that science can solve all problems. To a large extent, it is not science but rather how humanity has used science that has put us in our present difficulties. Because most people, in general, have no awareness of what science can and cannot do. So they misuse it, and they do not think about science in a more pluralistic way. So, okay, you’re going to develop a self-driving car? Good! But how will that car handle hard choices, like whether to prioritize the lives of its occupants or the lives of pedestrian bystanders? Is it going to just be the technologist from Google who decides? Let us hope not! You have to talk to philosophers, you have to talk to ethicists.” No Shit Sherlock. It might even be how people used many other "things" that has affected the outcome concerning where the human race is right now. "Things" such as weapons, energy, ...
