Well I’m now scared for the future. With Kennedy stepping down, we will have a Supreme Court of 5 hard right conservatives. How long do you think it will be before they start issuing rulings saying we don’t have rights?

When Obama had the oppertunity to appoint a judge to SCOTUS the republicans blocked him every step of the way and then cried foul when the dems tried to do the same to Trump. This is twice now and we cannot let him tip the scale. We stand to loose everything if he succeeds. So we can't let him.

Back in 2004 after an Oregon judge allowed marriage equality, the political consensus was that voters in a blue progressive state would not take-away rights from their fellow gay and lesbian neighbors. After all, Oregon voters had repeatedly defeated anti-gay ballot measures. And yet, Oregon voters simultaneously voted for Kerry for president while also passing a constitutional amendment in 2004 that took away marriage equality. So, yes, rights can be lost by political winds and marriage equality and abortion rights are now likely to be lost.

It’s likely to cause a lot of issues in my home state of Virginia. We have a majority Republican state legislature, who have attempted on a few occasions to pass anti-lgbt laws.

A lot of people think progress is a one way street, all forward and no going back. That’s not the case. Unless we stay organized, continue to agitate, and educate as many people as we can then we could be in for a real shit storm.

Well, I mean, we saw this coming, and here it is.

Not if enough of us do enough to stop it.

It's a mess, to be sure. I hear some folks telling me that previously decided laws can't be overturned and others saying it's the Wild West in there, now.

I'm just afraid that after they come for the black and brown people they'll come for us next.

They absolutely can. It’s not unprecedented for the Supreme Court to overturn a previous Supreme Court ruling. It’s the Wild West alright.

This could end up making us wish for the Wild West.

Buckle up buttercups.
