I have thought about watching that film but haven't got around to it. Premise reminds me of "Happy Texas."
Back in the '90s, I read Randy Schilts' huge expose on the military history of treatment of gays, "Conduct Unbecoming " It was riveting and anger-inducing. But something he pointed out stuck with me. He noted that regardless of the military's anti-gay policies over the decades, consistantly actual prosecutions and discharges of gays ALWAYS dropped off sharply during times of war, proving that the claim of concern about troop moral and combat readiness was a sham, a pathetic excuse. The rules were used to scare and harass, but as soon as actual wartime personnel needs were increased, the brass wasn't so keen on purging the ranks. Fucking hypocrites!
