@OldMetalHead I have a 40+ year old Hoover that I bought second hand at a garage sale 7 years ago for $AU20.
I had to do extensive glass-fibreing on the rotting plastic on the top. That lasted til this year when I totally destroyed the lid in my clumsy panic during a power failure. It now has a length of wood holding the safety switch in place & the lid from a large plastic tub simply laying over the opening to stop the water splashing out. I just have to be extra careful not to drop anything down the side of the drum when loading\unloading the mashine!
It holds 5 kgs but I frequently overload!
I think that machine is making a judgment call on the delicates being laundered!
