Is there such a thing as an illogical fear? Most things feared -- flying, surgery, childbirth, pit bulls, war, have resulted in disaster for some people. One can seek comfort in statistics, showing that flying is safer than driving, for instance, but that doesn't mean there is no risk. Some people are nearly fearless, others swallow their fears well. Others are practically immobilized by them. Why? Spock, by the way, got practically mesmerized petting that cat....
