Also, somewhat amusingly, the 3rd book is actually titled "Under Heaven's Bridge"!!! Yes, by those authors! & that cover!

@Insectra No, tho I've read a number of Michael Bishop's novels.
On the last one, if the author is "Spanky" they would have been in the bathroom for a totally different reason!
