We seem to have always made them like us. I mean that they changed as we changed. But it stopped at Jesus with no new god for 2000 years. Perhaps, as Jordan Peterson says, Jesus is the consummate archetype of a god. I mean that (and think Peterson does too) in the sense of bringing god-types to a pinnacle of perfection. If so, that means we couldn't improve on him so the only way forward was discard him. I realise there was a lot more going on historically, Deism for example, but I find it very curious that there was no attempt to update Jesus with a newer version.
