Last night I caught a snippet of Day the Earth Stood Still where Klaatu tells the scientist why he came. It went something like: "...Applying nuclear technology to rockets poses a danger to others. By posing danger, Humanity risks danger. If Mankind cannot control itself, the Earth would have to be... eliminated, and reduced to a burned out cinder..."
