LINK Police agencies taking more reports over phone to save on gas
Nothing says "protect and serve" like, "Sorry. We're using your tax dollars to sit on our asses and return voicemail. Maybe."
When Chicago Southside police stopped responding to 911 calls (many years ago) they also locked Precinct doors. They literally wait for deaths, go to the scene, wait for the toe-tagging by a coroner and go back to the Precinct. (This was a Rahm Emanuel policy. Now, over a BILLION dollars a year is spent in a mere 13,000 officers. And they won't even open the door if you're dying on the doorstop.)
Now that Indianapolis is at higher gun violence rates than Chicago, the exact same strategy is now common knowledge.
It has nothing to do with the price of gas.

At least the cops are not killing anyone. Maybe they should contract for others to do the real police work.
