I love Sam Bee and her take on the news each week.

(I can't seem to break this up into paragraphs. The site strips out all line breaks after hitting reply.) Hey do you know where that "Only 22% of mass shooters are mentally ill" came from? Is there a publication that's widely known in the U.S. with that statistics? I couldn't find Samantha Bee's source for this data. Her show should really add attributions to their claims. This is what I found on "mass shooting and mental health": [psychiatryonline.org] It's a full report in PDF format released by Psychiatry Online. And that PDF's webpage is here: [gun-violence.psychiatryonline.org] From its conclusion on page 18 of 24: "...Mass shootings by people with serious mental illness remain exceedingly rare events and represent a fraction of a percent of all yearly gun-related homicides. In contrast, firearm deaths by suicide account for the majority of yearly gun-related deaths. Although gun restriction laws that focus broadly on mental illness are an understandable initial reaction, they will be extremely low yield and wasteful of scant resources. Furthermore, such laws perpetuate the myth that mental illness leads to violence and gives the public the incorrect message that mental illness is significantly associated with gun violence directed toward others..." But it doesn't have that "22%" statistics.
